Ballybeg Community Youth Project

Ballybeg Special Youth work under the auspices of Waterford and South Tipperary Community Youth Service.  The overall aims of WSTCYS is to assist the positive personal, social, spiritual and educational development of young people, in particular those who are experiencing disadvantage and social exclusion; to enable them to exercise greater control over their lives by empowering them to make active choices and decisions, to exercise responsibility and to contribute to the development of their community, environment and society.

 Objectives include:

To research and identify the issues affecting and the needs of young people.

To initiate and promote creative volunteer-driven community -based responses to the needs and issues identified.

To coordinate, support and develop an integrated youth service encompassing youth work, special projects and special services for young people.

To provide education and training to equip those involved in service delivery with the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully engage with young people.

To support the progress of youth work through the provision of resources and equipment.

To promote the importance of youth work at a local, regional and national level.

The specific target group of the Project is young people from the Ballybeg community aged between 10 and 21 years. The needs of and responses to each target group differ according to age, interests, stage of development and social and behavioural factors as well as organisational factors, resources and the specific focus of any given initiative.
