EDGE Project

    alt

The EDGE Project is a Garda Youth Diversion Project - a community based, multi-agency crime prevention project, which aims to divert young people, aged 12 to 18 in Carrick on Suir and its environs from becoming involved (or further involved) in anti-social and/or criminal behaviour by providing suitable activities to facilitate personal development, promote civic responsibility and improve long-term employability prospects. By doing so, the projects also contribute to improving the quality of life within communities and enhancing Garda / community relations. It endeavours to provide a safe place for the young people in which they can meet, attend programmes and activities which assist in the development of their confidence and self- esteem; will enhance their CVS and their opportunities in education, training and employment, and empower each individual to develop to their full potential. The aim of the project is to decrease occurrence of anti social and criminal behaviour in its participants and to develop and increase positive attributes and skills to improve their quality of life and life expectations.

The EDGE Project is funded by the Irish Youth Justice Service who grant the core funding which  provides for the day to day running of the Project including the Project Coordinator, programme costs and utilities. Co-funding is granted through the European Social Fund under two strands – Sub Measure 1; which provides programme funding and Sub Measure 2; which provides for a Youth Justice Worker. ESF monies are allocated specifically to engage young people in terms of their Education, Training and Employment needs.

At the EDGE Project we work to:

  • Facilitate personal development. This includes raising self confidence and self esteem and the development of personal and social skills through both group work and one to one sessions.
  • Encourage young people to take responsibility for shaping their life in a positive way.
  • Encourage young people to take responsibility for their actions – developing critical and reflective thinking skills and an awareness of consequences.
  • Support young people to look at their future wants and needs in order to develop realistic and positive ambitions.
  • Provide accredited programmes whereby the young people will achieve enhanced CVs and increase the employability of participants.
  • Provide programmes and activities that will work to decrease impulsivity and increase empathy and pro social behaviours.
  • Young people will at all stages be consulted and listened to regarding their needs and ideas. They will be involved as best they can in the planning and implementation of activities and programmes that will assist in achieving the afore mentioned objectives.

Additional Information:
