Description
The Inner City Community Youth Project was established in 2002 and works with young people aged 10 to 21 years living in Waterford’s inner city. We work with local people and agencies to respond to the needs of young people and provide a safe space where they can meet peers in their community and build good relationships with local adults. The project operates from Monday to Friday in the youth centre on Manor Street. Members usually have one main group that they come to every week based on age and interests. Young people are facilitated to plan their own programmes which provides opportunities for them to build their skills and to grow and learn in a relaxed and fun environment. Members can also come to the drop in sessions or special interest programmes like arts & crafts/intergenerational work. We collaborate with St Brigid’s Family Centre to run the Intergenerational Project which is a group of young people and older adults who build friendships and have lots of fun working on different projects together. Our leaders are all volunteers from the local community who believe in young people and want to support them. We share an office with the Manor Street Youth Project and together we run 3 café/games room drop in sessions each week for 10 to 12’s, 13 to 15’s and 16+ so that new members can come and meet the leaders and the other young people and find out about other ways they can participate in the youth centre. If you would like to join you can pop in and have a chat with the youth worker, Shellie, or ring/text her on the number here. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date with all our activities!
