Description

The aim of this Programme is to enable young people to take responsibility for the direction of their own lives through helping them improve their social skills, increase self-esteem and confidence, and support them as they transition to education and employment. Waterford and South Tipperary Community Youth Service aims to enable young people to increase their economic security, opportunity and participation by increasing their levels of employability, enhancing their acquisition of employability skills, and supporting their progression towards employment, education or training.

The Programme is based at Woodstown Residential and Activity Centre, catering for up to 12 young people between the ages of 17 and 24.

The key focus of the Programme is to:

  • Develop a safe space with young people, where they can find their voice and have real influence on their own lives
  • Enable core skills improvements based around improvements in the 7 proximal outcomes for young people (communications skills; confidence and agency; planning and problem-solving; relationships; creativity and imagination; resilience and determination; emotional intelligence)
  • Build bridges with Agencies that can help the young people find direction
  • De-mystify the world of work, and support young people as they seek employment
