Description

DAY (Dungarvan Advances Youth) is a Youth Diversion Project and was established in 2000. It is a two worker project and covers the West Waterford and Dungarvan District area covering a population of 24,312. Its primary target group is young people aged between 12-18, who are at risk of or are involved in criminal activity and anti-social behaviour. These Young People are identified primarily through the Garda JLO who is Aidan McCarthy and on a secondary basis by any agency/person who can also refer into the Project. The young people referred to the project are then engaged by the staff team. The needs of participants will be met through participation in varied programmes and opportunities, through challenging and interrupting inappropriate behaviour and encouraging the young person to participate in decision making in an empowering way.

The aims are achieved by the project supporting and engaging the young people through:

  • Formal/Informal 1:1,1:2, support
  • Developmental Group work
  • Chill Out Drop In Space
  • Outreach
  • Detached Work
  • Seasonal Programmes
  • Special Interest Groups
  • Family Support.

DAY staff recruit, train and support volunteers and students in working with the Project.
