Edge & Tyre YDP visit SETU Students
Youth Justice Workers Amy from the EDGE Project and Emmet from the TYRE Project recently delivered an engaging and informative talk to Criminal Justice students at South East Technological University (SETU). The session provided students with valuable insight into the day-to-day realities of youth justice work, highlighting both the challenges and rewards of supporting young people involved in or at risk of entering the justice system.
Amy and Emmet shared their professional experiences, outlining the aims and approaches of the EDGE and TYRE projects, and explaining how early intervention, relationship-building, and community-based supports play a crucial role in achieving positive outcomes for young people. They also discussed the importance of collaboration with families, schools, and wider services to ensure a holistic response to each young person’s needs.
The students were highly engaged throughout the session and took the opportunity to ask thoughtful and insightful questions. Topics ranged from career pathways into youth justice to the practical realities of working in the field, as well as the impact of policy and resources on service delivery.
Overall, the talk was a valuable learning experience, offering students a real-world perspective on youth justice and inspiring those considering a future career in this area.
