Here for Youth

Paint Punch

Paint Punch is an innovative youth arts programme developed by artist Frank McCarthy and The GAFF in Limerick. The Programme invites young people to create powerful, expressive artworks by punching paint onto boards using boxing gloves. Inspired by young people’s connection to boxing, this physical and creative outlet has proven to be a unique tool for boosting self-esteem and providing a safe space for self-expression.

8 young people from the SWAY YDP and SHY CYP took part in two days of fun, energising workshops led by experienced facilitators and artists. We dipped boxing gloves in buckets of paint and punched plywood to create a colourful background. The young people returned for a second day to paint ‘what community means to them’ on the boards. For some, it was their local football club and others enjoyed painting their hobbies and interests.
