Here for Youth

WSTCYS Volunteer awards

Waterford & South Tipperary Community Youth gathered their Volunteers from across the county and South Tipperary to celebrate their contribution to the organisation and the young people that they work with.

WSTCYS operates out of 12 purpose-built Youth & Community Centres throughout Waterford and South Tipperary. Volunteers play a pivotal part in the operation of the service and in supporting young people and adult service users. Clive Smith, WSTCYS Board Chairperson,  presented the awards to the recipients on behalf of the board and acknowledged the benefit that Volunteers bring to each project they willingly give their time for. Though the last few years have been tough , many of the Volunteers remained committed and consistent through their involvement in clubs, groups, and projects throughout Waterford & South Tipperary.

16 Volunteers were shortlisted from projects in Waterford city, Dungarvan and Clonmel.

Des Butler, Roseanne Burke,  Pearl Nwokoru, Rachel Power, Gemma Roche, Denis Flynn, Amy O’Riordan and Sasha Maher were nominated for the Adult Volunteer award. Des Butler, Farronshoneen Youth Project, was awarded overall Volunteer of the Year 2023. Des was presented with a Handmade Irish Glass Vase from Kite Designs in recognition of his contribution to the project. Des was a young person who went on to be a Junior Leader and now an Adult Volunteer. Des was described as a gentle soul who develops great bonds with the young people he works with.

Casey Spain, Tia Weldon, Ryan Hodge, Hassan Chaudary, Johnnie Ronan, DJ Dunne, Rebecca Doyle, and Jake Coleman were  nominated for Junior Volunteer of the Year.

Tia Weldon was presented with the award for Junior Volunteer of the Year for their dedication to the community and passion to reduce inequalities. Tia was also a young person who has grown up through the project and began her role as a Volunteer within WSTCYS.

This is the second year of the Volunteer awards and indicative of WSTCYS’ commitment to recognise the fantastic contribution made by each and every one of the Volunteers.
